Marimastat(CAS: 154039-60-8) is a broad spectrum inhibitor of MMPs (IC50 values are 3, 5, 6, 9 and 13 nM for MMP-9, MMP-1, MMP-2, MMP-14 and MMP-7 respectively). Marimastat covalently binds to the zinc(II) ion in the active site of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), thereby inhibiting the action of MMPs, inducing extracellular matrix degradation, and inhibiting angiogenesis, tumor growth and invasion, and metastasis.
